One of the important points when driving in Turkey with a rented or personal car is to know how to inquire about car fines in Turkey and related matters; because neglecting this issue and being unfamiliar with the methods of inquiring and paying traffic fines in this country can have unpleasant consequences for drivers.
Turkey is a country that has made driving in this country easier and safer in recent decades by amending its traffic laws based on the standards of the European Union and using new equipment and technologies in this regard. Based on this, in order to improve the driving level of Turkish people and travelers who, for example, rent a car in Istanbul or other cities of this country, methods for paying traffic fines in Turkey have been considered, which include:
· Bank branches of contracting parties
· Special applications for mobile phones
· Applications of contracting party banks
· Electronic government website (e-Devlet)
· Tax Administration website (www.gib.gov.tr)
Important Note: Travelers who rent a car in Turkey for easy traffic to all parts of Turkey and various regions of each of its cities and to reduce their transportation costs can inquire and pay their traffic fines in another way; in the following, we will refer to this method.
As mentioned, travelers who have decided to rent a car for easy and fast traffic in Turkey can pay the fines recorded for their cars at the airport; in fact, when the car rental is done from a group whose offices and parking lots are at the airport, you can hand over the car to that company at the airport and when you return to your country.
In such circumstances, after returning the vehicle to the desired company, they will be able to see and notify you of any fines recorded due to access to the traffic offense about their cars in the tracking system; in this way, you can also pay the required amount and get to your flight.
Important Note: In some cases, some traffic fines in Turkey may be announced to the relevant company several months after the vehicle is returned to them. In such cases, they will send you all the necessary information, including: the date of the fine, the reason for it, the cost, etc., via email or media message such as WhatsApp; note you are also required to pay these fines, and if you refuse you may face legal actions.
According to what has been said so far, if you are a resident of Turkey and want to inquire about your car fines, just visit the website: https://giris.turkiye.gov.tr/Giris/gir. In this case, by having your identification number on the Kimlik card and the passcode related to the electronic government system, you can inquire about the fine recorded on the license plate number of your car in Turkey.
However, if you have rented the car to the relevant company, they can see any possible fines by entering the license plate number in the relevant system. In other words, travelers cannot find out the amount of their fines before returning the car to the desired company.
Unfortunately, one of the most common traffic violations in the world is related to ignoring the speed limit for driving in different areas; therefore, in Turkey, in order to ensure the accuracy of drivers in complying with the speed limit, fines have been considered to increase security for drivers and pedestrians. In this regard, the permissible speed in Turkey in terms of kilometers per hour is: in cities and some rural roads, it is between 30 and 50, on suburban routes 90, on freeways 120, and on two-lane highways 110.
Accordingly, speeding fines in Turkey and other traffic fines, based on the latest changes in 2024, are as follows:

Important Note: Considering that in Turkey, the traffic police of this country closely monitor various routes inside and outside the city, it is strongly recommended to refrain from committing any traffic violations; in this regard, in addition to various types of surveillance cameras to control and record traffic violations, sometimes the police stop cars on different routes randomly and check the necessary cases.
Another common fine, especially for travelers in this country, is related to the fine for not having a driver's license for foreigners in Turkey, the amount of which is about 13 thousand liras; therefore, it is strongly recommended always to have the following documents with you when renting a car in Izmir or other cities in Turkey, as well as while driving in this country.
First of all, you should keep in mind that the documents required to rent a car in Antalya or any other city of this country for travelers and tourists are: a driver's license issued by their own country, a valid passport, and an international driver's license; for those foreign nationals who have stayed in Turkey for more than 6 months, these documents include: driver's license issued by their own country, valid Kimlik and Turkish driver's license.
Based on this, not only you should have the above documents with you, for example, when renting a car in Van, Turkey, but also while driving, you should have all of them with you in addition to the car rental contract and third-party insurance policies; because if you don't have the mentioned documents with you, not only you can't rent a car, but if you are driving and the police stop your car, you will face heavy fines and the possibility of confiscating your car.
