One of the most common ways to travel, especially to popular tourist destinations like Istanbul, is by plane. In this regard, due to the high number of passengers and flights to it, this city has more than one airport; for this reason, it is better for passengers to know the airports of Istanbul and to know which airport each flight takes.
One of the services offered at Istanbul Airport is providing passengers with access to free internet. To use this service, passengers must first connect to the "Istanbul Airport Turk Telecom" Wi-Fi network. On the registration page that appears, they can get their password using one of the following methods:
1. Via SMS by entering their phone number.
2. Via Scanning their Passport at designated kiosks.
Once the password is received, passengers can enjoy only "One Hour" of free internet access; they can purchase additional internet packages if they need the internet more than this period. Additionally, free Wi-Fi is available through Wi-Fi kiosks in various parts of the airport, such as gates, transit lounges, and arrival and departure halls.
Moreover, Istanbul Airport provides other internet access options, including:
· Wi-Fi in restaurants and cafes.
· In-flights provided by Turkish Airlines.
· Rentable Wi-Fi devices for use throughout Turkey.
Also, passengers can opt for unlimited internet services by purchasing an "eSIM" or "4G" Wi-Fi device.
Istanbul, the most important city in Turkey, hosts many tourists every year who are interested in visiting tourist attractions, shopping in modern or old shopping centers, or discovering its wonders. These passengers who mainly travel to Istanbul by plane, their flights land at one of the 4 airports in Istanbul, according to the airline, the type of flight, and some other factors, which are:
1. Istanbul Airport in Arnavutköy (IST)
2. Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Pendik (SAW)
3. Ataturk International Airport in Bakırköy (ISL)
4. Hezarfen Airport in Çatalca (LTBW)
Thus, when you book a flight ticket to Istanbul, you can choose your destination airport to have easier access to the hotel, accommodation, or place you want to go to; of course, it should be noted that "Hazarfen Airport" is smaller than other airports in Istanbul and is a private airport for carrying out aviation activities for the general public.
Istanbul's New Airport was built in the northwest of Taksim Square, about 40 km from it, in 2018 on land with an area of 76.5 million square meters. This airport, which is only 40 minutes away from Taksim Square by taxi or private car, was built due to the increase in the number of flights to Istanbul and travelers who mostly traveled to this metropolis to spend vacations. It should be noted that access to Istanbul Airport from Taksim Square is also possible in other ways, which include:
· Take the subway at Taksim Square station and get off at Istanbul Airport station (approximate time: 51 minutes).
· Get on the bus at "Havaist" station in Taksim Square and get off at Istanbul Airport station (approximate time: 1 hour and 42 minutes).
Important Note: In recent years, one of the most effective solutions for quick access to all parts of this city and reducing travel costs is renting a car in Istanbul. Accordingly, if you are not interested in wasting your time waiting at bus and subway stations and do not want to have to pay high fares for taxis, renting a car is a great idea.
Because not only should you have a relatively good knowledge about the stations of bus and metro and their routes, but you should also tolerate the crowding of passengers in these vehicles; at the same time, the taxi fare in Istanbul is so high that the cost of taking a taxi from Sabiha Airport to Taksim Square (one way only), is equivalent to a full day's car rental in this city. In this regard, by using routing applications, you can find the shortest and least crowded route and go to several destinations easily.
As you know, Istanbul is a big city with all kinds of public transportation, so you can use one of them to reach your desired places depending on your conditions, time, destination, and location. In such a situation, considering that Taksim Square is known as the main center and the heart of this city, for this reason, we will indicate the method of access and the approximate time to go to other airports in Istanbul in the following table:
Important Note: Sometimes travelers prefer to use the "Rent a Car with a Driver (Transfer)" service because they don't have the necessary documents to rent a car with them or don't want to drive in another city or country. In this way, according to the reservation they have made, the said car will pick them up at the time and origin predetermined by them and take them to the destination or places they specified during the booking.
According to what was mentioned before, Istanbul has 4 airports, except Hezarfen Airport, the rest are international. In this regard, since 2018, with the completion of the construction of the "New Istanbul Airport," not only has this airport become the main airport of the city, but also the title of the largest airport in Istanbul. It is interesting to know that this airport has 6 runways, 4 passenger terminals, 165 boarding bridges, 3 technical buildings, 8 control towers, 16 taxi routes, and 1 loading area.
Other parts of this large airport include: domestic and international terminals, banks, ATMs, post offices, a VIP lounge, a hospital, a large multi-level parking lot, moving walkways, restaurants and fast food, coffee shops, various stores (duty-free), luxurious conference halls, special facilities for the disabled, toilets and bathrooms, comfort facilities such as babysitting, a lounge, and many other services and facilities.
Istanbul International Airport, with the abbreviation "IST," is the name of the new airport in this city, through which most of the domestic and international flights to Istanbul and Turkey are carried out today. This airport, which is called in Turkish "İstanbul Havalimanı," is one of the most equipped airports in the world and was able to handle a significant amount of passengers coming to Istanbul and Turkey.
Istanbul Airport has "Biometric Technology (Facial Recognition)," and for this reason, passengers who come to this airport do not need to carry their flight information, passport, and ID card (although it is recommended to always have them with you).
