Kadikoy Bazaar is one of the old and traditional Bazaars of Istanbul in the Asian side of the city, which is on the list of most travelers and tourists. In this bazaar, there are various items for sale and one of its main attractions is the traditional fabric of the bazaar.
When you travel to Istanbul, it does not matter in which Asian or European side or region of this city you have booked your hotel in Istanbul; in any case, you can easily find several historical and scenic attractions of this city around you and enjoy their beauty. This city, whose tourist attractions are not limited to historical and natural monuments, other attractions include shopping centers, old bazaars, and local markets in different parts of Istanbul.
One of the most famous such bazaars in Istanbul is "Kadikoy Bazaar (Kadıköy Pazarı)," which is a local market with a long history and is known as one of the most important shopping centers in Istanbul.
The old and local bazaar of Kadikoy in Hasanpasa (Hasanpaşa), started its activity in 1968, and although it was a small bazaar with limited items for sale at the beginning, today it has become one of the big and famous bazaars of Istanbul. This bazaar, which has always been one of the main areas of the city in ancient times and after, due to the high traffic of people, is considered an ideal place for shopping.
What has turned Kadikoy Bazaar into one of Istanbul's attractions that attracts the attention of every passerby, even from afar, is the aroma of fresh fruits and vegetables and the variety of colors of different goods. This bazaar, which can be introduced as one of Istanbul's free attractions for sightseeing, is one of the best places to buy fresh food goods in the city.
It is interesting to know that, in December 2008, Kadıköy Bazaar was temporarily moved from its location in "Altıyol" to "Fikirtepe" to solve the problem of congestion and improve the urban traffic situation in this area; finally, in 2021, after reforming changes in its original location, it moved to its current location in Hasanpasa in "Uzuncayır Caddesi (Uzunçayır Caddesi)".
Note: Kadikoy Bazaar was initially a small bazaar, and since long ago, it is only open on Tuesdays and Fridays for shopping and sightseeing; today, this bazaar operates on Tuesdays as "Sali Pazarı" and on Fridays as "Cuma Pazarı".
As mentioned before, Kadıköy Bazaar is located in the area of the same name in Hasanpasa, but its exact address can be given as follows based on the map and its location in Istanbul: Kadıköy, Rıhtım Cd. No: 8 4, 34714 Kadıköy. Note, by renting a car in Istanbul, you can easily come to this bazaar on Tuesdays and Fridays and enjoy spending time in it or shopping.
Note: If you have traveled to Istanbul with tours, be sure to ask for the necessary information about their travel plan in advance so that you don't miss visiting the Kadikoy Bazaar.
Usually, one of the questions that tourists ask in this regard when traveling to Istanbul is, "How far is Kadikoy from Taksim?"; to answer to this question, it should be said that the distance between Taksim and Kadikoy is not long, but due to the location of the end of the Bosphorus Strait between them and the Sea of Marmara, their distance depends on the type of your vehicle (about 14 to 16 km).
Therefore, in the following table you can see things like: how to access, and the estimated time between Taksim Square and the Kadikoy area:
Important Note 1: By booking your hotel in the Taksim area, you will not only have easier access to such public transportation but also other famous tourist attractions in Istanbul that will be close to you.
Important Note 2: Due to the location of Taksim Square as the main crossroads of the city and the heart of Istanbul, there are famous shopping centers in the Taksim area where you can buy all kinds of goods of your choice. It should be noted that these shopping centers include modern, common, and local types.
Important Note 3: Pay attention, if you are traveling to Istanbul for a relatively long time and the number of your companions is also large (for example, with family members or a group of friends), you can rent a suite in Istanbul and Taksim area; this way, you'll not only enjoy luxury hotel amenities, but you'll also have more privacy and dedicated space (especially for your gatherings in living room).
Important Note 4: As you have seen in the table, the fastest way to get to Kadikoy is from Taksim Square (or at a destination in Turkey), renting a car in Istanbul and other Turkish cities; based on this, not only you can go to your desired places at any hour of the day and night, but also because of the high fare of taxis, your expenses will be significantly reduced; also, you don't have to wait for buses and subways or board them when they are full.
One of the types of goods that can be bought at reasonable prices in Kadikoy is the clothes in the Bazaar on Friday; therefore, if you go to Kadikoy clothing bazaar, you can buy all kinds of clothes from foreign, Turkish, and local brands. Another important note in this regard is the discounts that some vendors or shops have offered to attract the attention of tourists, and this issue is very pleasant for travelers as well.
Among the other goods that can be bought in this Bazaar are all kinds of food products, handicrafts, jewelry, souvenirs of Istanbul and Turkey, spices, and many other items.
Another day of Istanbul's Kadikoy Bazaar is Friday, where the main items sold are clothes, bags, shoes, and fabrics. In fact, Kadikoy Friday Bazaar is one of the best places in Istanbul for shoppers to buy the clothes they need at reasonable prices. This clothing, which includes local clothes, hand-embroidered, domestic products, and some foreign brands, is a great place for sightseeing because of the wide variety of colors and models.
According to what we said, the Kadikoy Bazaar offers different items for sale to buyers on two days of the week, one of which is the Kadikoy Bazaar on Tuesday. On this day, when most of the available goods include all kinds of fruits, fresh vegetables, pickles, and other products related to them, buyers from different parts of the city are attracted.
Therefore, for example, if you have rented a house in Istanbul in Kadikoy (or nearby areas), you can buy your food ingredients from this bazaar on Tuesday and cook your favorite meals at home. It should be noted that the address of Istanbul's Kadikoy Bazaar on Tuesday was in Hasanpasa, but due to a large number of customers and tourists, it is temporarily set up in "Merdivenkoy (Merdivenköy)," near Hasanpasa.
Note: The distance between Merdivenkoy in the southeast of Kadikoy Bazaar is about 4 km, which is about 10 minutes by car and 45 minutes by foot.
· Previous Address: Hasanpaşa, Uzunçayır Cd. No: 50, 34722 Kadıköy.
· New Address: Merdivenköy, 34732 Kadıköy.
In addition to what was said about the charms and features of this Bazaar (selling fresh items and the active presence of women), other attractions of Kadikoy Bazaar are the street food vendors located in this place; this feature also gives you the opportunity to smell the pleasant aromas and taste the delicious local foods.
This has increased the attractiveness of this place for travelers and tourists from far away years, and among the things that are recommended to be eaten in Kadikoy Bazaar, we can mention the following: Creamy yogurt and honey, Anatolian regional dishes, Arabic style pizza called Lahmacun, Ice-cream Sundaes, and Turkish coffee.
