Zeus, as the god of gods in ancient Greece who resides on "Olympus Mount," has the power of lightning and rules over the heavens and the earth. According to Greek mythology, Zeus was the last child of "Cronus" and "Rhea/Rheia" from the giants’ generation known as "Titan"; in these legends, it is said that Cronus had heard in prophecies that one of his children would kill him, so he swallowed them alive after their birth.

But after the birth of Zeus, Rhea wraps a stone in a swaddling and gives it to Kronos to swallow it; in this way, Zeus survived and grew up in a cave away from his father's eyes, and after growing up, he killed his father and freed his brothers and sisters from his womb. After this incident, Zeus divided the power and rulership between himself and two other brothers, according to which Zeus ruled the heavens and the earth, and Poseidon ruled the waters and seas, and the rulership of the underworld and the dead goes to Hades.

The rulership period of Zeus and his life was full of ups and downs, and some gods and titans constantly tried to kill him or conquer the territory of Zeus on Mount Olympus; but every time, with the help of some other gods or a solution he took, he succeeded in defeating his enemies. Zeus had many wives, some of his most famous children are: Athena, Heracles, Perseus, Aphrodite, Hermes, Helen, etc.

Zeus' Living on Mount Olympus

According to ancient Greek mythology, Zeus lived far from the reach of humans, on top of the mountain "Olymp/Olympus," which literally means "Nose"; it is interesting to know that this mountain is located in the northern half of Greece, near the Aegean Sea and the border of the Greek cities of that time, "Thessaly and Macedonia," and has a height of about 3000 meters above sea level. Mount Olympus is the highest point in Greece and is also known as "Mount Olympus of Zeus".

Therefore, the people who wanted to worship Zeus built many temples under the title "Temple of Zeus" in most parts of Greece cities during that period of time; for this reason, today, not only examples and remains of such temples can be seen all over Greece, but also in countries like Turkey, whose western regions used to be part of Greece, where there are still significant examples.

Important Note: In addition to the temples of Zeus, there are also caves in most parts of the former territory of ancient Greece. According to myths, Zeus came to these caves to hide, meet with different people, take a bath, etc. These caves, which are also known as the "Cave of Zeus," are among the most popular tourist attractions in Kuşadası, Turkey.
